Book-keeping Notes, Session 99 (3/9/16):

– We left off at 11:49am on the 2nd of Jourilden with the party looting the residential quarters in the Pathogen Facility. The party has been adventuring — with some rest — for ~178 turns (29 hours and 49 minutes).

– Contemplating the artificial nature of time: Finkleworm

– Wishing they had Loyalty Checks: The Automata

  1. Proposal about residence looting: The party has a pretty solid process for scanning rooms and clearing out the ones without any occupants. If the group would like, we could assume the party enters and loots those clear rooms and just identifies the occupied ones — basically handling that “off-screen” and picking up after that next session with something a little more exciting. Does that sound acceptable?

  2. During down time when Thorfus and Edan can pay attention, Chuq suggests they rethink their strategic goals below Xen Khel. The gist of his argument is that since we lost the “Young Buck” and the last admin PASKey to the DK’s warband, as well as considering the pasting we are getting trying to clear Pathogen, we should consider sealing the facilities. His first suggestion is either destroying an admin PASkey (or two), or perhaps all the special research (“X”) stone portal keys in the open lava pits found in the Engineering section. Then we can get off this rock and do something about the slavers (especially Grell). If we feel bold, we can attempt to assassinate Marchmain, incapicitate one of the bridges by coercing a Brain to raise a bridge then smashing the brain to smithereens or use Finkelworm to collapse the winding passage above the hall of pillars or swallow/grind away the portal in the temple.

The whole time he is arguing his point, he is monitoring Thorfus, knowing the nominal Ironhand Clan Leader has a fascination with Xen Khel similar to that of Boromir for the one ring….

  3. Derich will probably act as Chuq’s foil in this argument. He wants to see his work done, and XenoTel finished. It’s all he has left in this world really, and doesn’t think the final key is yet out of our reach.

That said, I don’t think it’s a bad plan, and as a player, I definitely want to see us put an end to Grell. It’d be trivial to destroy the keys really, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to access the secret area, even if that is just simply digging towards it. Marchmain would be an epic fight, but we definitely do not have numbers on our side, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was someone who could take on the entire party.

I also think that sooner or later, we need to do something about Finkleworm, cos leaving him in that hole is gonna cause issues.

  4. Not being a Starchie Boy, Chuq will dismiss Derich out of hand. “Quit Pops, the adults are speaking. We’ll tell you what we decide”

Chuq unabashedly thinks the probability sword coupled with a shadow step and an Edan back stab would take care of Marchmain in short order. One potion of clairaudience, sprinkle in an esp blocking circlet personal invitation for a diurnal stroll or a dash of scrying mask serendipity and Marchmain has an Elf, a dwarf and a Monk stepping out a shadow too close for comfort.

He also honestly thinks destroying an admin paskey or finkelworming the temple portal throne room will seal the special research lab forever.

  5. Dayum. Poor Derich. XD

My issue with shanking Marchmain is less his actual killing, and more the fallout from doing so. We’ll at the very least have to deal with every Silver Throne agent on the mountain, with our only allies being Idony (maybe), the Innkeeper, and the hat-maker.

Not that it’s a bad idea, but it’ll need careful planning.

As for sealing the special research lab, it’s more that the physical location still exists, wherever that may be. It’s not a permanent solution, although it’s certainly a delaying tactic. If we go that route, we should destroy all the keys and if we can, even the portals themselves. Make it so they can’t remake keys and such. I still don’t like not at least inspecting the special area though, not after all the effort we put in.

  6. Update: Since the party spent another 50 turns clearing the empty residential rooms in the Pathogen area, we will be picking up at 8:09PM on the 2nd of Jourilden. The party will have been adventuring for 228 turns (38 hours and 9 minutes). The party will need to rest soon.
