Thorfus to his mother.
Mother,
My companions and I have been busy and our exploits have lead us to great riches and accomplishments, and some smearing our names. You can trust that I will never stoop to the lows to which father brought us.
We were joyed to have our companion Axel return to us, after we thought him lost in the ruins of XenKehl. He is now the only one of our original group still with me.
Our most recent endeavors have lead us to uncover a coming danger that is beyond words in its magnitude.
I had hoped to return home and possibly retire from the questing life, but this looming catastrophe is such that I feel compelled to act now. I will return home at the soonest, hopefully with the crisis averted and a long peaceful life ahead to rebuild the fortunes of Clan Ironhand.
Your Son,
Thorfus
I suppose the dedication of dwarves to their mothers is a lingering by-product of the predominantly matriarchal nature of the ancient empire.
