Session 47 – March 11, 2015 (Temporary Summary)

Session 47 – March 11, 2015 (Temporary Summary)

The druid, Hart joined us, arriving on ship from Midmark, following the death of Ashton. Hart is a friend of Orion and joined us after hearing of our adventures from him.

A new ship greeted us from Midmark and a messenger with a satchel for Baldric’s Boys from Captain Salisdar (i.e. Perrette).

The letter tells of of the most likely death of Em and that natives supposedly slaughtered the camp with the slaves.

Perrette was called back to Midmark and Newton was overrun by undead. Many clerics killed, including Kilmar. Galron lead the survivors to Kalligan.

We hired the fisherman Clement to gather the men to haul the statue up out of the fort.

We take the Bawdy Bachelor around the point to see that the fort is greatly undercut and had the egg detonated, it might have broght down the whole fort. Chuq spoke to a fish and there is a big bad fish, alligator/crocodile, and a mean mereman. there are ships and other riches in there.

We learn that the monster in the icy water is a wight and that it had half of an Inquisitor’s mask.

Thorfus hauls the wight away from the fort and keeps sticking it to keep it dead. Down by the warehouses, it stops moving, confirming that some powerful magic/evil is re-animating the undead. We resolve to haul out all the undead and burn them.

Book-keeping Notes, Session 48 (3/18/15):

Book-keeping Notes, Session 48 (3/18/15):

– The session concluded 7:30am on the 24th of Denrilden; the party was in the octagonal room peering down the just revealed secret passage in that chamber’s northeast corner.

– The party spent a total of 4 hours and 30 minutes (27 turns) exploring the dungeon on the 23rd and 24th; that finishes off the pint of oil from last time (18 turns) and leaves two and a half hours (15 turns) of burning time on another pint (update inventory accordingly). Another 10 pints would have been used to burn all the bodies carried to the surface.

– Deaths: A bunch of monsters

– Knocked Unconscious: Recusson (healed by Brice)

– Level Drained: No one this week

Continuing their search for the undeath curse’s origin, the party presses deeper into the sealed imperial base beneath Kaligan fort. Having been attacked by wight’s with masks that can mimic anyone the wearer touches, sodden sheets that attempt to strangle, and assorted creatures that refuse to stay dead, it is unclear how much longer their luck (such as it is) will hold out. Perhaps the secret passage from whence a group of zombies issued will provide some answers …

Just wanted to mark the passage from this life of Terry Pratchett today. Although I came to his Disc World series late, I have come to consider Pratchett one of the best fantasy novelists (period) and a very sharp satirist. If you look closely at Midmark — including its politics and police force — there’s a little bit of Ankh-Morpork, Sam Vimes, and especially the wonderful book Night Watch in its DNA.

Thanks to Thorfus’s experiment with the wight that struck Finklemur, the party finally knows one way to permanently destroy the monsters infesting the sub-basement of Kaligan’s fort. Great danger still lurks below, though, since the party has yet to discover the source of the curse or encounter either the great snap-jaw or mysterious floating merman that Carchus described to Chuq. Finally, what dark and mysterious circumstances could explain the odd mixture of secret imperial agents, merfolk, and devil-fish sorcery in these sealed tunnels? Can the party survive long enough to find out?
