Book-keeping Notes, Session 97 (2/24/16):
– We left off at 9am on the 1st of Jourilden with Axel trapped in the Botanical Research area and the rest of the party in Power & Engineering. The party has been adventuring just 18 turns (3 hours).
– Waiting for a Sign: Finkleworm
– Contemplating the Fickle Nature of Friendship: Axel
– Jealous of Axel’s +1 Strength: Thorfus

Feel free to chime in here with plans to free Axel. The party floated at least two plans at the end of the session: get Finkleworm to help, charge through into the BioForge. Any other thoughts?
One thought, is there any way to only power the portal? Or is there basically only one on/off switch?
From Power & Engineering, you can only control power elsewhere on an facility by facility basis.
How about another tack? Kalgunn, can you help us find Something in Engineering that could over ride/rule the control circlet in Botany Bay? If we could use their undying against them, we could attempt a rescue in force or clandestinely…
I want to set our own portable desynch trap! Can’t we set the power to overload in both Botany Bay and Bioforge? could that be our leverage?
The Chief Engineer’s desk terminal indicates that all four platinum administrative keys are needed to overload an area’s power or change the power to Area X.
Basically, there is no answer that we like.
We can do our own desynch trap, but if we give power to the Bio forge, what if they have a circle key that allows them to activate a portal? They could follow us anywhere in Xen Khel. We found three keys, The original one that Thorfus has, the smashed X key in the BioForge, the X Key we found in Power and Engineering, and the one Axel has that I think we found in the Bio Forge (so they have a key either way).
I suspect they are working with Marchmain and would gladly overwhelm us to get what they need. They probably know we have 3 of the platinum keys (2 with Thorfus and 1 with Chuq).
If we give power to the BioForge, they can kill Axel and then flank us. They can trap us in power & engineering and starve us out.
If I’m wrong, Axel dies in vain.
If I’m right, we lose Axel but accomplish our ultimate objective.
We can’t read their minds to know if they are honest and trustworthy.
Personally, I don’t trust them.
To be clear: this isn’t a guessing game. That is, I don’t have a specific “secret” answer in mind that will solve the riddle (though there could be one) — I simply extrapolated a plan based on the Dark King group’s goals, their knowledge of ancient dwarven technology, the resources available to them, and what has already been established about desynchronization devices.
Question – with our reliquary, can we control power to the facilities from any pedestal or only those in engineering? (Querry for kalgunn)
It’s a brilliant trap. We had all the pieces to such a possibility in our memory, but did not make the connection to be on the lookout for such things.
We need Finkleworm to make an opening that we can exploit without giving power and opening the jungle portal, if we do, then we have to watch for an ambush from our rear.
Ir we starve them, the undying won’t undo the time trap, so we’ll have to go around it…..
Teleport seems like an easier solution….
Rahm Benisaeko Good question — Kalgunn will let you know that it is possible to use the reliquary elsewhere if you have both the Chief Engineer’s admin key and the one for the area you are adjusting (with the obvious exception of Area X).
I have a vague memory that we can overload the engineering Facility severing power to all facilities and potentially permanently damaging (to an unknown extent) the mountain Xen Khels is on. If this is correct, here is the message Chuq suggests as our next response:
“To the foolishly ignorant and arrogant blunderer in command of the forces currently holding hostage the Starchie Boy known as Axel Rhomkel ; we have within our power not only to keep you entombed in darkness forever but to irrevocably destroy the ancient dwarven power source for all the ancient dwarven weapon research facilities. This one act would not only seal your doom, it will also render the portal transport network useless forever. It is now your task to understand that if any further harm to Axel Rhomkhul be it further aging, physical assault, mental manipulation or death, will force our hand. We will destroy the ancient dwarven power source leaving you and yours entombed where you are. There is no version of the future where you leave your prison without our largesse. Here is your only option : surrender all Paskeys and Portal Stones to Axel Rhomkhul along with one magical item from each of your lieutenants and your most preferred personal magical items. You will also turn over all control circlets to Axel. Lastly, you will dismantle all desynch devices under your control and stage the entire mechanisms in the Botany portal chamber. Once Axel and all required items are collected in the Botany portal chamber, you and only you will stand in attendance in the room directly north of the portal room with the door propped open. You will be interviewed at this time, be it known that we have an ancient artifact that will alert us if you dissemble, and will have an opportunity to present your case for mercy. Of you at found lacking in sincerity, veracity or faithfulness the fate already outlined is yours. If however, you are better than our established opinion of you, your group will find freedom to return to the eastern jungle at a time of our choosing. Signed with all sincerity, the Starchie Boys”
Rahm Benisaeko, I believe you are recalling a conversation between Edan and Kalgunn in which there was a question of what would happen if the generators in Power & Engineering were overloaded (i.e., something catastrophic, likely involving volcanic activity). That’s a separate question from how you would accomplish the overload, which is still dependent on having all the administrator keys. Of course, how much of this is known to your enemies is another question.
That sound’s right John Carlson .
Well boys, care to play poker?
Is there a window in the doors to the power & engineering portal room?
I also want my two monkey’s back, unharmed, while we’re making demands. Unfortunately, the “gift” of one from our last inquiry into the bioforge is probably how they got the time trap implemented, unless they have other automatons with capabilities we don’t know they have. That or the #$%@ leader read Thorfus’ thoughts and learned of the time trap used on the chief engineer. Or they are just that knowledgeable.
Follow Me, And Die! There are no door windows in P&E and Botany; there are in BioFroge and Pathogens.
That’s assuming the Bioforge portal room has not been disassembled…
You could always go check …
That would definitely send the wrong message, we are not capitulating as of yet.
Was just listening to Antony Nicklin’s vlog and had an epiphany – the rebels must have locked Xeno Tel in a desynch trap/prison. Thoughts?
