SESSION 218 – September 12, 2018

SESSION 218 – September 12, 2018

We join the Bacchanal feast with the centaurs and others, eating the last of the food. They want to know if we know that Sylvanus is not really divine, and are we really able to stop the Dark One?

We reassure them that yes, we can. We ask final questions, and learn that there is a passage beneath the altar in the temple.

We talk to Sylvanus and ask and learn that it is blocked by choke points in each direction. We devise a plan to have a two phased diversion. While we go get Axelbot, after an hour, they will do a surface diversion. We will then flee. They will pull back that diversion, then do a subsurface diversion.

We see the fruit of of our plan. Kauri cast invisibility 10″ radius on two of us, so we moved in two groups past the patrols. Rallion went last to obscure out tracks. Kauri made Axelbot invisible and carried spiderbot in a sack. Rallion continued to obscure tracks until we heard the baying of the mechanical hounds Axel managed to avoid during the week. We get to the gate, and Laris thought about opening the gate, like he did to get wood and leather to make our wooden mud shoes. (How did he do that? – The ring with a demon)

We close and lock the gate behind us.

We get past a door and the turrets open but can’t see us. We spike and disable the door behind us. A tram car shows up with a ninja bot looking out the window on our side. We manage to get on and squeeze together. As it starts to turn around, Bavmorda has positioned herself behind it and strikes it down like a true assassin.

The tram takes us to elevators. As we move, the turrets pop up but can’t get a lock on us. We get on the elevator that is labelled Research and Library of the Dead, and hit the button for the penthouse.

A short time later, the doors open up in the mile long, mile wide sideways cylinder with rows upon rows of labelled cubes with the dead dwarves. A clear tube runs the length of the library with single person elevators leading to it. We see pairs of overseers working in the stacks.

Within the central tube we see a large floating sphere that appears to have a large eye with stalks with more eyes on the ends of the stalks “walking a picket” along the central tube. The end of the tube opposite us, leads to Xenotel. The sphere seems to fill the tube and be too large for the smaller elevators.

We have arrived at 3:15 AM on the 1st of Tenrelden, the first anniversary of the original party sailing into port at Midmark. The apocalypse clock reads 00.000.00.14, a fortnight remains until time runs out!

SESSION 48 – September 9, 2018

SESSION 48 – September 9, 2018

We gather Otiben’s body and Urman’s hirelings Alram and Godfrey and the bodies of the orcs who fell and convey them to a room prior to burial.

We divide up Otiben’s remaining gear, and begin our rest in preparation for vengeance against the remaining ogres, and destruction or conversion of the remaining goblins to serve Puk as their new chief. The 3 surviving goblins recognize Puk as their chief due to both the influence of the charm goblin potion and Urman holding up the broken staff of The Seer.

We learn from the goblins and the surviving ogre that they are looting the city and will leave when the dome ceases. this was their plan all along.

Urman slays the ogre with the vampire dagger and heals a bit.

The orcs plan to fight along side us.

Ygritte says she will convince her father that the return of the orcs is a good thing.

Ignotius will be careful how he breaks the news that the orcs are not entirely extinct.

We view the orcs as allies that we’d rather have occupying the orc city.

Urman wants to use a force of goblins behind the forces of The Enchantress to relieve the dwarves of their burden.

Otiben is suddenly returned to us whole, but Zho Ni is not convinced. Urman is unsure, as is Batukhan.

Zho Ni drops Otiben and is prepared to strike the killing blow, but Urman drags Otiben away once he sees the chief heal him, and he has a pulse and breathes. He has never heard of undead doing either.

Batukhan drops Zho Ni, and Embrek ceases to fight.

The orc chief heals Zho Ni who we convince to use his scroll of Augury to determine if it is weal or woe to let Otiben fight alongside us. Zho Ni sees a sign from Aestaria and concedes it is really Otiben.

We prepare to rest and relearn spells and heal up for tomorrow.

We give Ygritte the ring of messages and Puk and his 3 goblins along with his wolf mount go to see if the dome still holds.

Otiben tells us that he is “_On a mission from god_.” The Crone sent him back as her champion.

SESSION 217 – September 5, 2018

SESSION 217 – September 5, 2018

We do our training, get new skills, and receive many gifts.

Acid rain destroys crops and the undying field workers and disfigures the statues of the “gods”. On the second day after training, we take advantage of the 30 minute respite in the rain to check on Axel and he and the spider are fine.

Sylvanus makes each of us a nanocarbon shield, and gifts each of us with a healing potion, and a total of 60 rounds for our beam weapons.

Kauri and Laris get their second most wanted spell and are promised their most wanted spells if they make sure their owl teacher survives.

We all study the theory of shadow stepping, and are cautioned against its use, as there are many DVLs and Daemons waiting to follow someone out. The Silence were working to free them as part of their religious movement that hoped for a Savior to set them free, who one of their number called Bavmorda.

Bavmorda asks Xentellar to sharpen the probability sword.

Prixithalma is checking the code in the cube and determines that Serithaz transmitted it faithfully, and it disappears. Sylvanus erased it. Only when we suggest a balanced council does he restore all but the part that will destroy this place. A product of the corrupted version of Prix’s virus sent by her husband, as he wanted to ensure magic persisted for everyone.

Eventually, we settle on a council of 3 – Prix, who made a copy of herself, Kalgun, and Serithaz. Kauri used two lightning bolts to transfer first Kalgun, and then Serithaz into the cube. Prix checked and all three are there complaining about personal space. So we went with the prophecy that requires the consort, liar, and mad king.

The helm is now free of Serithaz and most likely any copies he made.

Midway through training, scouts report in that we are surrounded by hundreds of automaton. Sylvanus calls upon the citizens of Elysium to create a diversion, so we can escape, get Axel and head toward our goal. About 50 or 60 indicate they will give their lives for the diversion. The automatons cannot pass the ring of standing stones, so within we are safe, but prevented from reaching our goal.

Nash weeps as he wants to finish his training, but the others point out that time is short.

Tomorrow marks one year since Thorfus Ironhand, Axel Rhomkul, Galron the paladin, Ir’Alle the Human cleric of Xenteller, Sthorm the thief, and Uthruk the half-orc first sailed into Midmark. Perhaps Galron, Sthorm, adn uthruk yet live….

SESSION 47 – September 2, 2018

SESSION 47 – September 2, 2018

After receiving the message that the Seer and her forces were attacking the few defending the Collossus, we fell back through the toilet. Puk ordered the last of the two goblins he turned to fight the two remaining goblins. We expect he is dead.

Urman used 1 of the last 3 charges in the force ring to block the Otyugh from getting us, and the goblins sent to follow us gave shrieks as they came upon it and we left.

A few warg riders came at us and we quickly dispatched all but one, and Puk has a new Warg mount.

We closed the doors before goblin reinforcements could arrive, and barred it.

We found Urman’s hireling, Alrem dead.

We made it to the doors, that were blown open and found Urman’s other hireling, Godfrey dead along with two of the animated bulls.

The fires were all out and all the iron golems were slain.

We heard the sounds of a ram against the doors as the remaining Orcs and Ygritte had fallen back past the control room.

We hoped to have the Seer trapped there, and Urman gave Puk the force ring to seal one hallway with the last two charges. (It regenerates 1 charge per day.)

Urman cast lightning bolt down the other passageway, that had an ogre shaman, and felled several ogres and goblins, and left several wounded ogres.

Zho Ni cast silence on the shaman, and Otiben left a potion of goblin control as he ran off to climb the Colossus.

Batukhan and Embreck stood off to the sides of the hallway and felled the first ogre, and moved on the shaman. Zho Ni cast Prayer.

The door went down and Ygritte and company were exposed. They withstood the onslaught, and Urman cast fireball tasking out all but one orgre and several goblins. Zho Ni drank the potion of goblin control and took control of the remaining goblins. Zho Ni proclaimed Puk as their Savior, Chief of the Bloody Fang.

While the fight raged, Otiben began his slow and steady ascent.

Urman ran under the Colossus, preparing to use his final scroll of dispel magic.

With the aid of the goblins, orcs, and Ygritte the last ogres to the North passageway were defeated, and the ones in the south hall were surrounded, and kept contained, while Puk and Zho Ni ran to join Urman. Urman stepped aside just in time, as a huge plate of metal fell from the Colossus, revealing an opening inside.

As Otiben continued his climb, Urman had enough natural height for his dispel magic to reach the Seer, who lost flight, and dropped her magic wand, that fell dark and broke as it hit the floor. The Seer just barely managed to grab the lip of the opening. Urman picked up the pieces of the shattered wand, taunting the Seer, thanking her for the fancy stick.

Puk fired arrows and completely missed the entire Colossus.

While the fight in the hallway continued, Otiben completed his climb, but could not reach the Seer before she cast Improved Phantasmal Force and pushed Otiben out. The rest of us could only watch helplessly as Otiben fell to his death.

Zho Ni cast silence 15′ radius on an arrow that Puk launched just as Otiben fell, too late to prevent the spell from affecting Otiben. (A first arrow with silence missed, that Urman retrieved so Puk had it at the ready.)

Not Knowing what else to do to get up there, Urman drank the green glittery potion, and got back a 1st level spell, he had used earlier in the day. He chose Magic Missile, but did not have the range to reach the Seer.

The others slowly beat the ogres, until the last one surrendered.

Urman retrieved the luckstone, and vampire dagger from Otiben, vowing to kill the Seer, as he drank the potion of gaseous form that we acquired from the other orc city in the swamp, where we fought the vampire.

Urman floated up, helplessly, only able to watch as the Seer and the green hued, throbbing heart of the Colossus disappeared together. The body of the Colossus crumbled away.

So close to victory, the Seer snatched it from our impending grasp, leaving us hurt, tired, practically spent of all magic and spells, and our long-time companion Otiben, broken amidst the rubble of the Colossus.

Revenge is on our minds, as we plan to eliminate the remaining ogres, and what goblins do not bow the knee to Puk.

[Unknown to us, Otiben hears childish giggling in another dimension.]

[Did the ogres care enough about the goblins trapped in the web spell to free them, or did they stay to the end of its duration, risking suffocation?]
