The Party’s Current Plan (End of Session 124

The Party’s Current Plan (End of Session 124

1. Canis digs out a sub-basement on Ronan’s apartment; the party frees the sub from the warehouse and stores it in this new hideout.

2. The party hires and/or purchases a ship to take them south to Hugue’s island; Perette and Em are taken aboard (either invisible or disguised). They hideout on that island if it is safe.

3. The party takes the ship to Kaligan/Vargen in hopes of tracking down Kottar/Araqiel and the Dead (?) Dragon Emperor’s Consort.

4. …

5. Profit.

  1. Thorfus spent enough gold getting outfitted for more fighting and paying all those at Angmar’s Folly, that he is down to 17,509 gp and a few smaller coins. The bulk of that total is in gems

Book prices: a small merchant ship is 5,000 gp and a large one 15,000 gp. Both are doable.

I think we’d want a small one for speed. In which case, there’s plenty of cash to pay the crew for a while.

Of course, something fast/sleek, and small is better for taking less to get into orbit.

  2. Thorfus will seek a black or brown tabard that he can use to cover and obscure his fancy platemail for going ashore in Vargen. Something to cover the battery pack & cable.

Did a scabbard come with the probability sword? I can’t recall. If so, he would see a new scabbard to further obscure things.

He will have a leather strap to wind about the handle of the now non-magical axe to hide its special characteristics, and once aboard ship will adjust his belt so that it is clear the axe is his preferred weapon. (In truth it is, but when he had the magic scimitar he tended to use that, and later the probability sword for the magic bonus. He has over 100 kills with this axe, so he is just as deadly with it.)

He will seek a new woodland travel outfit in brown & green done by the taylors in Midmark, so it is different than the outfit he procured in Vargen. It is well worn and time for a change.

I am sure if we buy a ship we might need an ensign, how does that work in the isles?

If we need a flag for the ship, Thorfus would want something simple that does not draw attention to us as causing trouble or being either the Starchy Boyz or Baldric’s Boys.

When we head towards Vargen (after whatever we do before making for it), while aboard ship on the way there, he will comb out his dual braids, and re-braid his beard into a single braid below his chin, in the style signifying a simple soldier. He will also braid his hair with a single braid in the back, also in the style of a simple soldier.

  3. Some answers:

    – The tabard, leather strap, and woodland travel outfit will not be a problem; the Lallements can produce something durale while not obviously expensive in short order for 15GP.

    – If you purchase a ship in Midmark, you can use the city’s flag as the primary ensign to indicate your home port. That would actually raise the fewest eyebrows since the other choice would be registering as an entity independent of any city-state (like the Silver Throne and some other large mercantile concerns). A secondary ensign specific to your ship is also needed, although there are no guidelines on what it depicts (it is simply registered in the harbor master’s books for identification purposes; outside of Midmark, you would need to re-register at any decent-sized harbor, such as Vargen).

    – The probability sword does have a simple scabbard, nothing ostentatious.

  4. i need to update my sheet. unload some stuff at my new pad, figure out my gp amount. really need the auction to happen, gotta pay for my training…kinda worried about if i even have enough, otherwise ill be demoted.

  5. WickedWayz !: You can assume that the sale of the items takes place — we’ve already settled on prices and buyers, it was just a matter of delaying things until everyone in the party would benefit in terms of XP. According to the G+ community post from session 122, this sale earned each PC 2,461 gold and experience. If that’s not enough to cover training, you could ask for a loan/gift from other players or the party fund.

  6. WickedWayz !: Yes — just to clarify: the meta-game experience earned by players for summaries and People & Places posts also offset training cost. The logic behind this house rule is that an influx of XP from a source that doesn’t also provide GP for training costs, at least in 1E AD&D, too easily leads to a situation in which someone qualifies for a level but cannot afford it.
